Greenland Iceberg

Check out this incredible shot of an iceberg, above and below water, from the aerial perspective. This particular iceberg calved from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier and floats in the Ilulissat fjord of Western Greenland. Icebergs vary considerably in size and shape, but typically carry about 90% of their volume below the water’s surface, leaving only 10% above water.

Bern

The Old City of Bern, seen here, is situated on a crook of the Aare River and more modern neighborhoods have sprouted up in surrounding areas. Bern has a population of about 140,000, making it the fifth-most populous city in Switzerland.

Greece Rail Disaster

On Tuesday, two trains collided head-on near the city of Larissa, Greece, causing the country’s deadliest rail disaster in history. A passenger train carrying more than 350 people collided with a freight train at a combined speed of 100 mph (160 kmh) after a station manager failed to perform a rail line switch. At least 57 people have died as a result, and dozens more were injured.

Davis–Monthan AFB

The largest aircraft storage and preservation facility in the world is located at Davis–Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. The facility, run by the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group, contains more than 4,400 retired American military and government aircraft. Tucson's dry climate and alkaline soil make it an ideal location to store and preserve aircraft.

East Palestine Derailment

On February 3rd, a fiery train derailment occurred in the town of East Palestine, Ohio, sparked by a mechanical issue with a rail car axle. Some 50 freight cars slid off the tracks, 10 of which contained hazardous materials such as vinyl chloride. Nearby residents were evacuated and a controlled release of toxic fumes was executed to prevent an explosion. Evacuation orders were lifted for the town on February 8th, though many question if the area is truly safe yet.
